We are delighted that our President, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has officially opened our new Maggie鈥檚 cancer support centre in the grounds of The Christie Hospital in Manchester.

Tuesday 26 April 2016 marks the official opening of Maggie鈥檚 Manchester and the centre will open its doors to the public in May.

The new centre, known as Maggie鈥檚 Manchester at The Robert Parfett Building, has been designed by acclaimed architects , with complementary landscape design by Dan Pearson.

The centre was developed by Maggie鈥檚 to enhance the care and support already on offer at The Christie, Europe鈥檚 largest single site cancer centre. Every year 50,000 people in the North West are diagnosed with cancer. As the number of people living with cancer increases, support becomes even more important.

Maggie鈥檚 Manchester is our 19th completed centre across the UK and internationally. When open to the public, the centre will provide a full programme of support, including psychological support, benefits advice, nutrition workshops, relaxation and stress management, art therapy, tai chi and yoga.

Laura Lee, Maggie鈥檚 Chief Executive said:

It is wonderful that we will now be able to offer the people of Greater Manchester Maggie鈥檚 practical, emotional and social support. The team at the centre are now looking forward to welcoming visitors. Anyone with cancer, their family or friends are welcome to visit and talk to our professional staff, make the most of our programme of support, or simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.鈥�

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall became President of Maggie鈥檚 in November 2008 following her visit to Maggie鈥檚 Edinburgh in July 2008.

Her Royal Highness is passionate about Maggie鈥檚 work and has shown her commitment to the charity by visiting many of the Maggie鈥檚 centres across England, Wales and Scotland, and hosting several events in support of Maggie鈥檚.

As Maggie鈥檚 President, Her Royal Highness has made a huge difference to Maggie鈥檚 and has brought great joy to many of the people who use the centres across the Country.
